Why would people leave your site within few seconds?
Getting traffic to a website or blog is very important. There are many easy methods available to generate traffic. However, keeping visitors long enough, so you can make a sale or referral to an affiliate, is difficult thing to achieve.
When we see those visitors leaving so quickly, we want to know couple of things:
- What is the reason they leave?
- Also, what can we do to keep them hang around a little bit more?
Most visitors will leave your site, because it is probably over crowded with pictures and animations, or in some cases, over crowded with text. If you have too much unrelated images or animations (advertisement banners and such), the information or product will be lost behind those distractions. In other words, people will not even try to find the information you provide.
However, if you provide the visitors with lots of text and information, many will not even bother to read and they will leave the site as soon as possible. So, the first thing you should do to keep visitors in your site, to provide clean and simple design that helps people to find what they are looking for. If they can’t find what they are looking for, they will leave.
The other thing you can do, analyse the keywords people are using to come to your site. If you are using Google Analytics, you can identify these keywords very easily. However, other counters such as Stat Counter should also provide that information. By identifying those keywords, you can see, what visitors are looking for, when they come to your site? After, identifying the keywords, display them in the page, where the visitors access. You can also identify the page, where visitors land from the search engine, by using Analytics.
I hope these tips will help you to keep your visitors longer than few seconds. Always remember, if you visit a site, what makes you to leave that site. The same reason you hit the back button is the same reason your visitors leave your site.

Very good post. Often I spend way too much time on Facebook and I seldom come upon anything that can be called new.I’m happy that I took the time to break that cycle of nonsense and find an informative blog like yours to read.
