How to get rid of selfish blogging?
Did you ever look at your blog as a normal visitor rather than an owner of that blog? Well, if you didn’t then you should start looking at it as a visitor as soon as possible.
When someone visits your blog, the only question they ask; is the answer to my question here? So, if they don’t get what they want, then simply they won’t come back. According to Leo Babauta, bloggers ask following questions to themselves, and he is right, that would be a big lie if I say I don’t:
- How can I make more money with this blog?
- How can I get popular on Digg?
- How can I get 10,000 subscribers?
- How can I make a name for myself?
- How can I promote my product and services?
- How can I show off how great I am to my readers?
- How can I get rich?
- How can I write a post today, just so that I can say I did a post?
Of course there is nothing wrong to ask these questions to yourself. At the end of the day, those are the main reason we all create blogs or websites. But, there is something important missing in these questions. Don’t you think it is bit selfish to think about ourselves rather than people, who will read these blogs? If we only think about becoming popular in Digg or getting 10,000 subscribers, then we will never become popular and we won’t have enough subscribers.
We all need to know, how our blog can help our readers. We need to add the following questions to the list above:
- Does my blog provide useful information to readers?
- What kinds of benefits readers could have by reading my blog?
- Am I leading them to the right direction?
As long as we put our readers first, then the rest will be much easier. Only satisfied readers will make your blog popular in Digg, and only satisfied readers will subscribe to your blog. Whatever your blog is about, or what ever category your blog belongs to, only readers would make you popular.
