Fatal Attraction or Fatal Mistake: Importance of Headlines

Without any exception all bloggers want their blog to be read. Therefore, they promote their blog on social networks, forums, and many other places. However, there are two key elements that make people to come to your blog and read it. Those are title and the content.

Title pulls the visitors to your blog. However, pulling visitors to your blog is not enough. We want them to stay and read our blog. In fact, we don’t just want them to read one blog post, we want them to subscribe and read our feature blog posts.

As you can see all the process starts with the headline. You need headlines that would grab the readers’ attention so; they would click on the link to come to your blog. However, getting the visitors to your site is not enough. You need to give them a reason to stay on your blog and read what you wrote. So, you need to create a content that would complement your headline. You can’t just provide a good title and don’t pay attention to the content.

Quality content is the reason, why your readers will come back to your site. So, if you don’t have a good content, it doesn’t matter if your headline says “Cure for Baldness”. If you don’t provide the cure, the patients (readers) won’t comeback to you.

Think of newspapers. They have the main headlines printed in the front page. They also made them larger, so the headlines can be read from a distance. These headline are the reason, we buy them. If we like the way it delivers news and information, we decide to buy that newspaper regularly.

It is same with your blog. The title will draw the attention towards your blog. Your content will make the first time readers to comeback for more, if they are satisfied.

Always, keep in mind that, good headlines draw attention and encourage people to explore more. If you want your blog posts to be picked out of many other titles in Digg or in someone’s RSS reader, than creating attractive titles is what you should pay extra attention to.

  1. Hello!

When I first started my blog I was concerned about how I was going to write what I was passionate about and still be search engine friendly. It actually worried me at first but then I just said “Forget that” and just wrote with passion, concerned only with quality content and some good titles for my articles. I definitely do not regret doing that.

    Good article, thanks!

  2. Hi Keithk

You can still write whatever you want and be search engine friendly. However, some make the biggest mistake by loading the content with keywords, just to receive traffic from search engines. There is no need for that. You can just include your keyword for a blog post in the title, in the tags, and in the content. You don’t have to mention it every sentence.

    Good Luck
