Time Before Twitter for Internet Marketers

Twitter is probably the newest form to promote our products, websites, and blogs. It can be so effective; we might even forget to use other social networks. Therefore, we need to remember, what methods were we using before Twitter came along?

Participating in forums is probably one of the oldest ways out of all of them. Yet again, they still have major benefits to build our reputation. Traffic you get from forums is still more effective than other social media. According to Chris Crum, forums are still relevant in social media marketing as he describes the forums as earliest form of social networks.

So, why I believe forums are still more effective than Twitter;

Certainly one of the main reasons is the limitation on the length of text that is used on Twitter. Also, our tweets can only be seen by our followers. So, if we don’t have enough followers, then it will be very difficult to promote our services or products.

In forums, you can participate in discussions, where your can show off your expertise. As long as you got something to say, you can participate in any thread within the forums.

However, twitter has the biggest potential;

This is where twitter’s advantages kicks in. With twitter you can build your own community; a community whose interests are very similar to yours. So, after you build that community, it can be easier to promote. Once you build the trust within that community, it will be easier to direct your followers to your website or blog.

But, why we all prefer Twitter;

Maybe, the popularity and simplicity of Twitter. However, that is still not a good enough reason to abandon the traditional methods. We still need to promote our Twitter community so people can follow us.
