If I can give you any advice on guest posting in a sentence that would be “Do it now and do it regularly”. There are a lot of potential benefits if your article is published on another blog. And this blog can be the one that has over 20000 readers.
Guest posting will provide;
More exposure on popular blogs
This is one of the main reasons why I write as a guest blogger. If your post can appear in wider audience, it is more likely that most of that audience will come and visit your blog as well. Popular blogs allow you to showcase your blog, as long as you provide them quality content.
Opportunity for free advertising
Did you ever check how much does it cost to advertise on a blog that has huge traffic and a lot of subscribers? It usually costs around $100/month for 125×125 banners. But guest posting is free. If the owner of the blog likes your article, they would be more than happy to publish it. This way, you will get free advertising as well. And this will only cost you your time to write a new article.

Most of the blog owners, who allow guest blogging on their blog, also allow you to post your blog link at the end of your article.
A chance for getting high PR back link for free
If you analyze some popular blogs, you will see that their individual articles also have high PR (Google Page Rank). As these blogs have authority, other bloggers usually use their material as reference on their own blog. So, in time the individual blog posts gain PR value. That means your post on that blog is very likely to gain high PR and you will end up with a quality back link to your own blog.
More traffic
As soon as your post appears, you will see significant increase on your traffic. Although this traffic becomes less every day, this gives you chance to make those visitors regular on your blog.

Popular blogs have thousands of subscribers. You can’t find this kind of wider audience for free in anywhere else. With guest posting, as well as traffic, your RSS subscribers increase dramatically, when your guest post appears.
More digs, more retweets
Popular blogs gets more diggs and retweets from their subscribers. So, you will have a great chance to make your article popular on Digg and Twitter.

Hi Melvin. It can be difficult to create posts for yourseflf and posts for guest blogging. However, it definitly pays off. Just try to push bit harder :)

Nowadays, I see that guest posting become a popular way among bloggers to promote their blog. Moreover they tend to make guest posts than make posts for their blog! I think some blogger have observed that guest posting is a great way to get loyal visitors to their sites. And this is a problem for websites which receive guest posting from many people, they have to check all those posts all day long.

I agree with “Do it regularly” phrase. once you start guest blogging you must do it regularly sticking to a schedule.
I have started doing guest articles just from yesterday and decided to give atleast one article per week and I am preparing good articles for it and selecting the blogs.
May be I can contact you sooner for it :D
