The Massive Impact of tiny, little, small goals
Blogging can be overwhelming as you don’t see the results of your hard work straight away. Especially, if you have a long term goal for a blog that has thousands of subscribers and generates good income. Only way you can keep the enthusiasm for blogging is by setting short term goals.
Do you have short term goals for your blog? We all kind have know what the long term goal of your blog. But by just concentrating on the long term goal, you will make your job more difficult and overwhelming. It would be a lot harder to be successful as you won’t see any results. So, you need to set short term goals that are realistic and much easier to achieve. Each time you achieve a short term goal, it will be mentally easier to tackle the next one.
For instance typical short term goals for a blog can be;
- Earning your first dollar within a week time.
- Having 50 RSS subscribers within a month time.
- Have at least 25 comments left in your blog within 2 weeks time, etc.
If you don’t set your short term goals, you won’t realise what you achieved so far. If you can’t see your achievements, then it will be a frustrating journey towards your long term goal. Having your short term goals set, will also help a lot on your productivity.
So, you need to be aware of your small achievements rather than letting them pass without any recognition by you. You need to reward yourself and analyse how you managed to accomplish that small goal. Always remember, each time you reach your small goal, you are one step closer to your long term goal.
Think of the long term goals as your roof and the short term goals are the pillars that support the roof. Without those pillars, we would surely get crushed under the weight of heavy roof.

The problem with most of us is we don’t have much patience in pursuing our goals, even for short-term goals. Which is why it is important for us to focus and acknowledge our little achievement so that we get inspired. Just as you have elaborated here. :-)

Great opinion. Yeah, it is more easy to see the result from short term goal if compare with long term goal. And the result surely gear up our motivation.

Awesome post, Ali! We were taught about something similar in college recently called ‘SMART targets’. These are targets like you’ve mentioned, and they are as follows:
S – Specific. Make sure you know EXACTLY what the target is.
M – Measurable. You need to be able to track your progress – either you fail or you succeed. There should be nowhere in the middle.
A – Achievable – There’s no point setting unrealistic targets, so make it fairly easy to complete.
R – Rewarding. Succeeding can make you feel good, so try and get as much reward out of hitting the target as possible!
T – Time specific. You need to set yourself a deadline. (ie, by the end of the month I will hit 50 subscribers) etc.
Hope that helped a bit! :)

Sometimes it takes baby steps to get there. You list some great ideas. Never take the eye off of the goal while you set short-term goals. They are confidence-builders, little pieces of evidence that what you’re doing is working.

Excellent post. One will never reach long term goals without taking shorter stepos to get there….or at the very least it will take considerably longer.
Example: Long term, 500 RSS subscribers/Short term 50 per month. :)
Of course no goals, long or short are going to work unless you also map out the steps you will ake to achive them. ;)

Thank you! It’s a plugin any blogger needs if they want my comments. LOL
Big fingers combined with fast typing and hitting the return key too fast makes for some messy results sometimes. ;)

Hello Ali :)
Is it wright for the bloggers to initially concentrate on the
money rather than the traffic of their blog??
