How to Build & Develop an Awesome Blog
This is a guest post by Nicholas Z. Cardot. Nick uses his blog Site Sketch 101 to express his passion for helping people learn how to blog with awesome content, brilliant designs and commanding influence.
My journey through the blogosphere has been a fun one. I started out several years ago with a tiny blogspot blog and I’ve come a long way since then. I now operate a successful blog called Site Sketch 101 where I help other bloggers to develop their skills in the field of blogging.
My journey has taken me from a hobby to a passion. I love blogging and to some degree, I now excel at it.
Today let me share with you a few of the ideas that have brought me to where I’m at today. Let me tell you the tools I’ve used to come this far.
Most bloggers want to improve themselves and draw in as many readers and subscribers as possible. I’ll share with you what’s worked for me and then I expect you to take it back to your blog with you and make your site the best that it’s ever been. Let’s grow together.
- Build Your RSS Subscribers. Visitors who don’t subscribe to your RSS or email subscriptions rarely return to your site. With this in mind, I’m sure you can see how important it is to build those lists. So how do we do it? Here are few quick ideas.
- Make the RSS icon large and easy to find. Using a large icon near the top of the page makes it very easy for your readers to find it.
- Place multiple RSS links on each page. I place a text link in my header, an icon near the top, and another icon at the footer of each article.
- Provide amazing content. The number one best way to gain subscribers is to simply provide amazing content that people will want to keep coming back for.
- Promote Your Blog. Promote your blog with relationships. Don’t focus on spamming your link on as many sites as possible. Instead, focus on building friendships with other bloggers. Focus on getting involved on forums. Focus on spreading the word as a credible blogger.
- Develop Your Theme. If you can wrap awesome content in an awesome theme then you’ve got a sure-fire strategy for success. People are attracted to content that looks nice. Let’s provide that for our readers.
- Interact With People. Relationships will take your blog a long way so interact with the people who comment on your site. Get to know them. If possible, provide them with other ways to contact you like your email address or your instant messenger address.
Take these principles that have worked for me and put them to work for you. Let’s grow together and keeping making our blogs better and better.

Build RSS subscribe is a must to have loyal recurring readers. We need to work on it because people tend to have lazy behavior about subscribing.

Engaging has increased my readers significantly. Content is #1, but discussing the content comes right behind.
It’s important to end most posts with a question. When I began to pose questions my readers responded more consistently.
